ADDIS RUMBLE was founded by Karen Obling and Andreas Hansen in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in December 2011, and is currently based in Nairobi, Kenya.
ADDIS means NEW in Amharic (the official language in Ethiopia). The blog is thus not only about the rumbling Ethiopian capital, but about uncovering and promoting new initiatives within African arts and culture placing East Africa in the spotlight. ADDIS RUMBLE also offers advice to artists on potential residencies, grants, institutions and festivals through our Artist Resources site.
ADDIS RUMBLE is always looking for guest contributors. Are you an artist wanting to share your creations with us or do you have a story on Somali arts, Ugandan street photography, Sudanese stand-up, the music scene in Kenya, contemporary Ethiopian literature, Tanzanian theater or something completely different? Then get in touch on firstname.lastname@example.org. ADDIS RUMBLE is a part of the Guardian’s Africa Network.
