Hub of Africa Fashion

You can’t be on top of everything happening in Addis. We learned that last week when Iben Djuraas from our home country contacted us, because she was coming to Addis Ababa for the ‘Hub of Africa Fashion‘, taking place from April 24-27th. This event completely escaped our attention, and we are so happy that Iben brought it up.

The Hub of African Fashion is basically a fashionweek collecting and showcasing fashion on all levels  from the continent. It takes place in the new African Union Conference center, where different exhibitors will showcase their works, including manufactors, fabric suppliers, buyers and designers. Three awards will be given at the show: first, the chance to be a part of Africa Fashion Week New York. Second, an opportunity in Paris’ Ethical Fashion Week and lastly, the Retailer award where the endowed designer will have his/her designs produced and sold in a large department store within 90 days of the show.

Our new friend Iben is doing research for her masters, and are planning to create a digital platform for the African Fashion Industry. She has a lot of experience within this field, and has among other things worked as a designer from Zanzibar. After the last show we will talk to her about the event, about new designers, the fashion industry in Addis Ababa and Africa, and a lot more. We will also try to get our own two feets inside the new and shiny AU building to see some shows ourselves, and talk to some of the designers and manufactors.

Meanwhile, here is a little taste of some of design and Fashion from Addis Ababa:
